Post: Sabathia to join Yankees

The New York Post is reporting this morning that CC Sabathia has agreed to become a New York Yankee.

After three straight days of face-to-face meetings between GM Brian Cashman and Sabathia, the big lefty decided he wants to spend the next six years of his career as a Yankee. The decision came late last night after Cashman flew to see Sabathia at his home in San Francisco. By the time the meeting was concluded, Sabathia had informed the Yankees that he had made his decision to call New York his baseball home, the Post has learned.

If this is correct (this is a reprt from the Post, after all) the Yankee off-season is a success no matter what else they accomplish.

Your thoughts?

I hope this isn’t true. Grrrrrr.

  2. Ed Valentine says:

I haven’t seen any denials yet. But, I will feel better once a statement or some official confirmation comes out.

  3. WillyMo says:

I blame the union for forcing CC to take this deal because as of one year ago he had no desire to play on that team. I also blame baseball for letting a team be the only one that can offer that insane contract with several other insane contracts already on that team. And you wonder why the Yankees are so hated by every other team in the league!

ESPN reports a “very close” deal for 7-yr/$160M. I’d say the off-season is a success when it’s done.

WillyMo, All I see is Waaaaah Waaah Wah.

    Yipeee Kay Ay, Mutha Hucka.

What an odd feeling this is as a Cleveland fan. I wish CC all the best: I hope he wins multiple Cy Youngs; I hope he’s a consistent 20 game winner; I hope that New York understands how great a competitor and person they’re getting here. (After his trade to Milwaukee, he took out a full-page ad in the Cleveland Plain Dealer to thank everybody–from his General Manager to all the clubhouse interns and fans–for all they’d given to him. He’s a class act, and I hope NY realizes this.)

I also hope that the Yankees don’t win anything–ever.

I’d like to believe that CC is worth this contract, but I’m thinking New York is going to get in his head, and he’s going to be a 4.00 to 4.75 ERA pitcher with some incipient injury trouble. A better signing than Zito or Pavano, but I’m afraid it’s going to go down as a bust. I hope he can find a way to deal with the pressure better than some of his predecessors, but I see it as unlikely.

I don’t like any long-term deal (I’m hearing 7 years $160mil), so I wouldn’t consider this off-season to be a success…yet. I’d like to see some trades (Ankiel for Kennedy) and some more signings before I deem it a success. Oh, and this one has to be verified.

  8. CC in NY '09 says:

B.E. – Rick Ankiel for Ian Kennedy. No way St. Louis does it. He’s a rising star and a very popular player for them.

  9. Jim says:

“I also hope that the Yankees don’t win anything-ever”

Best line of the day, truer words never spoken

  10. Santa Claustrophobia says:

    My thoughts? ‘Meh’.

I mean, it was such a forgone conclusion anyway, right? Getting news like this is kind of like the news breaking into one of your favourite TV shows to tell you that water was wet or Michael Jackson’s hair caught on fire. You already knew it or you just didn’t care.
