Brewers seek to honor Sabathia by pointing out his sh*tty fielding
The Brewers plan to appeal the official scorer’s decision to grant the Pirates a hit in Sunday’s game, hoping to get CC Sabathia credit for a no-hitter by pointing out his shitty fielding. Manager Ned Yost said Sabathia should have had no trouble fielding the dribbler hit by Andy LaRoche.
“It’s a lot easier for a left-handed pitcher to go to the third base line and make that throw than a right-handed pitcher.”
This might be the biggest sad sack story in Major League Baseball this season. Lemme get this straight: The Brewers feel Sabathia should be honored for throwing a no-hitter, and their chief piece of evidence is his own ineptitude? That’s fucking brilliant.

Perhaps you are unaware what a no-hitter is. It is a PITCHING accomplishment. You don’t have to hit a homerun on offense or make a spectacular play on defense to go along with it. In fact, you can even commit a few errors.
The fact is that the idiot scorer took away the accomplishment from Sabathia, one of the biggest in the game for a player to experience, no doubt. You and the Brewers both know the magic of the no-hitter that should have been is gone forever, but it would be equally outrageous if the Brewers didn’t file at least a token complain about such a glaring mistake.
I’m just glad you’re not managing any players, they might riot.
Ryo, I know what a no-hitter is: It’s the poor man’s perfect game. It’s also more common than hitting for the cycle. Hideo Nomo threw two no-hitters in his career. Roger Clemens, Pedro Martinez and Curt Schilling never did. So what’s the flukish accomplishment actually tell us? That a guy was almost perfect for one day.
It was unfortunate Sabathia didn’t field that ball cleanly, because then it wouldn’t have been in the hands of some judge. But it is what it is. You drop that ball, you lose the right to complain. I’m not a Pirates fan, and frankly I have no vested interest in the matter. But home team official scorers ALWAYS give the benefit of the doubt to the home team. And you can call the scorer an idiot, but it’s really poor form. It’s just a no-win situation, even if the appeal is successful, because (like you said) the celebration would be muted.
BTW, I’m glad I’m not managing players too.
Yeah, it all seems silly to me. As a Brewers fan, I would have preferred it Ned took the same route as CC did with his comments. He pitched a great game, the Brewers won, and things are looking good. Ned isn’t very good as picking his battles.
Are you the new century’s Skip Bayless?
No, Sean, I’m not a knee-jerk contrarian like Mr. Bayless, if that’s what you were trying to say. In fact, I usually like to go along with the flow when people in the visitors locker room are calling official scorers “idiots.” Just couldn’t in this instance.
