A little more than a week ago, Brewers beat writer Adam McCalvy broke a story, which I piggy-backed at the A.V. Club (thanks, Adam), about Ryan Braun’s intention to open a restaurant downtown. The report was confirmed as the impending opening of Ryan Braun’s Waterfront Grill was announced.
Like Fratello’s, the previous 102 N. Water Street inhabitant, Ryan Braun’s Waterfront Grill will offer steak, seafood, pasta, personal pizzas and $14 chicken fingers, along with an extensive selection of beer and wine.
Unlike Fratello’s… and most any other equal opportunity employers in the city, the ownership of Ryan Braun’s Waterfront Grill makes no secret of its desire to assemble a “NEW TEAM” comprised of the most attractive servers, bartenders, hosts, bussers and ¬†kitchen employees in the history of overpriced brew pubs. This¬†Craigslist ad indicates “Models that are bartenders will be included in the starting line-up.”
Each of the three Craigslist postings state “Models that are (job title) will be included in the starting line-up.”
Props to Braun for bringing a new restaurant and more jobs to the city, especially in the present economic climate. But the criteria for being part of the grill’s “starting line-up” could be seen as an unfair hiring practice in many circles. Luckily for Ryan Braun’s Waterfront Grill, they indicate they’re an Equal Opportunity Employer in each post (It’s the “EOE” just under the part where they state models will be given the best shifts). Bullet dodged.
The City of Milwaukee currently has an unemployment rate of over 9 percent. Let’s hope some of the many jobless out there have perky breasts, a perfectly gelled faux hawk and the ability to fill out a Remetee.
